Saya mewakili seluruh kepimpinan MTUC untuk mengucapkan ribuan terima kasih kepada semua ahli kesatuan yang memberikan sokongan padu terhadap kempen menuntut COLA RM500 dan melanjutkan usia persaraan kepada 65 tahun.

Sungguhpun kerajaan menolak tuntutan berkenaan buat masa ini, kempen kita jelas mendapat sokongan meluas di kalangan penduduk dan pemimpin masyarakat.

Ia juga meningkatkan kesedaran awam terhadap keperluan kerajaan dan majikan bersikap lebih ikhlas dalam membela kebajikan pekerja berpendapatan rendah.

Selaku Setiausaha Agung MTUC, saya memberi jaminan kesatuan yang kita semua cintai ini akan terus berjuang sedaya upaya untuk merealisasikan tuntutan COLA dan 65 tahun sebagai umur persaraan.

Saya berkeyakinan penuh niat murni kita ini, lambat laun, akan membuahkan hasil.

Sama-sama kita memperbaharui iltizam untuk terus berjuang bagi mencapai matlamat memperolehi COLA RM500 dan umur persaraan 65 tahun demi mengurangkan kesengsaraan pekerja.

On behalf of the MTUC leadership, I wish to record my deepest gratitude to each and every brother and sister in our union for their undivided support for our campaign to urge the government to introduce RM500 monthly COLA and extend the mandatory retirement age to 65 years.

Although Budget Day has revealed that the government was not agreeable to the two proposals for now, our campaign clearly made its mark and received considerable support from the rakyat and various political as well as community leaders.

By highlighting the reasons why the introduction of COLA and raising the retirement age is necessary, MTUC leaders and members raised public awareness on the need for the government to urgently restore the dignity of workers forced to live off poor wages and even worse benefits.

As the Secretary-General of MTUC, I give my full assurance that our beloved union will continue to press ahead with full vigour to convince the government on the necessity of introducing COLA and a higher retirement age for the betterment of workers.
