Welcome Address by Comrade J Solomon
Some of the KPIs, that we should be focusing on, for the Performance Appraisal of our country and the governments, is to begin with ourselves first.
(a) Do an evaluation of our role in the society and at work? Are we born into this world to live a brief and empty life?
(b) Should we work hard, face challenges and suffer to raise our children, by selfishly focusing on our own interest and wellbeing without caring what is happening around us.
(c) Should we fall into the trap of living a life by the rule of discriminating fellow human being based on racism, religions, wealth, power or status?
For the Trade Unions, anyone who professes such discrimination are enemy to the principles and spirit of Trade Union Solidarity.
Don’t get me wrong, of course, we have the right to fall in love, get married and raise a family. We also have the responsibility to provide our family with a decent home, food, education and entertainment BUT this cannot be the sole purpose of our lives.
Today, we are struggling to secure more and more in the name of progress amidst the increasing cost of living, rush to send our children to babysitters, pick them up, send them to child, pick them up, take them to tuition and pick them up.
(a) It has become our routine to provide more and more, till we are tired and exhausted.
(b) As such, we have no time to look at what is happening in our society. The corruption, inequality, countries at war and the rush to digitalise everything even if we really don’t need it. In addition, there is huge investment in technological revolutions.
(c) Therefore, we don’t have time to think about what will happen in 2030, 2050 or even one year from now.
Besides this, we are also living our lives in a world that largely believes that everything that happens is destined to happen and it is beyond us to change it.
